Make Your Own Leggings

  • 121 South Main Street Lexington, VA 24450 USA (map)

One 6-hour session

People are often surprised to learn they can make their own leggings, but guess what? YOU CAN! And you don't even need a serger to sew with knits. Cal will show you how to draft a pattern for this wardrobe essential, based on your own measurements. Then we'll stitch up a first draft fit sample, adjust our patterns if necessary, and proceed to make a pair of real-live leggings. You'll never buy them off the rack again!

Please have at least advanced-beginner sewing skills, with a few simple projects under your belt.

This class will be off-site at a location accessed by a flight of stairs. Class fee is $245 and includes lunch. Your place will be reserved with a $125 deposit now. The balance will be due by April 6.

You’ll need a total of 2-1/2 yards of cotton/lycra jersey knit fabric as well as some paper and pattern drafting supplies. A full list will be provided after you register.

Cal Patch has been a maker since she was a Girl Scout in the seventies. She sews, crochets, spins, embroiders, knits, prints, makes patterns, dyes… hence the name of her clothing label: *hodge dodge*. Cal has been teaching the textile arts sine 2000, at shops and retreats across North America, and now offers online workshops in pattern drafting, sewing, and crochet via Creativebug. After seventeen years of being a New York City dweller, Cal now resides in the Catskills where she is becoming a crafty farmer and growing her handmade wardrobe. Her first book, Design-It-Yourself Clothes, Patternmaking Simplified, was published by Potter Craft. You can see what she’s up to at http://calpatch.com
