Make a Skirt

Come learn and practice basic garment sewing skills with Frances Richardson as you make an A-line skirt using the Reed or A-Frame skirt pattern. Both patterns include options for varied lengths and pockets.

This class will proceed at a slow pace with a small number of students, allowing beginner sewists ample instruction and support.

**Subsequent session schedule will be agreed on during first class


Skills Needed:

Interest in working with fabric and sewing garments


What you’ll learn:

  • How to work with a commercial sewing pattern

  • Proper material handling and tool use

  • Basic machine sewing techniques

Preparation:

  • Purchase either the Reed Skirt (by Grainline Studio) or A-Frame (by Blue Prints) pattern, fabric, thread, and elastic — available at Make It Sew with 10% class discount.

  • Advice on fabric choice is available at Make It Sew

  • Fabric should be washed and ironed before class

Instructor Bio:

Frances Richardson is a retired schoolteacher and textile conservator. She enjoys many fiber arts including weaving and knitting in addition to sewing.
