Dressmaking Intensive

We are offering you an experience like no other when you sign up for Caroline Cook’s October dressmaking class at Make It Sew.

Caroline Cook working her fitting magic

You will receive professional instruction in sewing and fitting, providing you with new skills and time to practice and develop what you’ve already learned. You will have a fun weekend with other makers, creating together in a supportive and friendly environment. And you will make a dress that you can be proud of.

For the August class, we’ve chosen to focus on your garment  sewing practice. To that end, we are selecting the pattern and the materials for you, and including them in the cost of the workshop.

You will be able to concentrate on developing your skills in apparel sewing, and have FUN. No worries – the materials are from the well-curated stock at Make It Sew. Patterns will be from designers that you’ve heard of. When you sign up you will provide us some information about your sewing experience and a couple of measurements. Caroline and Accacia will collaborate on selections. Class maximum is 5 students and everyone will make something different.
And because we don’t believe in making students do something we wouldn’t do ourselves, Caroline and Accacia will be challenging each other with a mystery garment sewing project, too.

In the past we’ve had students striving to make their dream dress (or jumpsuit!). We’ve had students working on a dress made from really really special fabric – and we understand that cutting into that can be daunting. This time, you will have the opportunity to practice dressmaking skills without the personal attachments and stress that sometimes accompany a new project.

Caroline is a master pattern matcher and teaches couture finishing techniques.

Class will begin on Friday with a refreshments and project reveal with a short work session. Instruction and sewing continues Saturday and Sunday from 10-5. You are encouraged to use the vintage Singer sewing machines (and modern sergers) at Make It Sew, and also to bring your favorite sewing kit.

Registration fee is $560 which includes 3 days of instruction plus snacks, and the materials to make your dress.

Sign up here.
