Range Backpack class

  • 121 South Main Street Lexington, VA 24450 USA (map)

We are excited to offer a class on making the Range Backpack, a favorite pattern, from Noodlehead designs.

Your class will be taught by the dream team of Frances Richardson and Gisselle Cruz-Gijon. Gisselle has made most of the bag samples here at Make It Sew. Frances has vast textile experience and has made the Range backpack several times over.

Students will sew on studio machines that are well-suited for the slightly heavier materials for this project; if you want to use your own machine, please be sure that you are comfortable using it and be confident that it is up for the task.

Material preparation is a very important and lengthy part of making the Range Backpack. In order to maximize class time with your instructors, you must come to class with materials already fully prepared. When you sign up, we will provide a detailed materials supply list along with specific instructions to aid in this. You will receive a 10% discount on materials purchased for this class. Additionally, we have two optional services:

  • A pre-class session ($25/two hours) where you can cut your selected materials in our studio with a teacher and hard pattern templates

  • Materials prepared for you, limited choice of fabrics ($85, materials included)

Skills practiced in the class:

  • Sewing straight seams.

  • Attaching hardware

  • Sewing zippers

  • Bag construction.

Skills needed:

  • Basic machine sewing. You should have at least a few projects under your belt.

  • Interest in making a backpack
