Visible Mending with Jessica Marquez

  • 121 South Main Street Lexington, VA 24450 USA (map)

Favorite jeans have holes? Stained your go-to jacket?

Come learn artful and practical skills to mend, patch and repair damaged clothing and textiles inspired by time honored repair techniques taught by Jessica Marquez, author of Make + Mend.

Some denim the instructor has mended

Students will learn several techniques for reinforcing, patching and darning textiles inspired by Japanese Sashiko and traditional quilting. Tools and materials needed, tips and tricks for preparing and stitching projects, and how to draw and stitch patterned sashiko or improvise stitches will be covered as well.

Rear End Mend

Please bring several articles of clothing you’d like to repair so you’ll have options. Woven materials are best suited for this technique—think denim, canvas, linen and even heavy weight jerseys. We will work on one piece together

Because each mend is different students will receive individual feedback and guidance throughout the process. If you don't have a garment to bring, that's alright you can practice the techniques on provided fabric swatches.

A variety of upcycled fabric swatches will be provided for students to experiment with and to use in their mending projects.

$100.

Supply fee $20 paid directly to instructor on day of class.
